The biggest challenge in projecting a hero or avatar in a video game is when the experience levels of the hero and the player are very different. The hero might be a legendary soldier, but the player might be engaging in a battle for the first time. And you might make silly mistakes. However, this is also the most fun element of the game. Although you might be far from what you envision as a hero, by playing many times, your character can grow into a hero. This is an experience you can't get from a movie. I think this is the strength of an interactive game.
