One thing that I really love about my job, working in narrative in games, is that I am concerned about telling the best story possible. The best story possible has actually quite little to do with say, what the characters are saying or what the character necessarily does from beat to beat, it has so much more to do with the overall experience that the player is having, and so to do the best job I can, I cant just be focusing on the scripts, or on the voice acting, or particular things that come out, or just out of say, characters mouths, or come out in a cinematic. I have to be talking not just daily but practically hourly with online, with art, with our audio team and talking with them about how our map is laid out, talking about various props we may need, talking with them about the kinds of weapons that our characters may be carrying and what those abilities are because whether you pull out a broad sword or whether you pull out a bazooka says something so important about your character, and so I have to be involved in a lot of those decisions as well and having those discussions and bringing them up with all of the different discipline leads, to be able to say, hey is there a way that we can do this, and they come to me and ask about, we’re thinking of putting in this new kind of mechanic, is that something we can do on the story side and, absolutely. Like that right there is the way you can elevate what game story can be and overall game experience as if all of them are working together so I love the fact that in game narrative, we don’t just have words, and acting and that sort of this to tell our story. We really have all of it, and I think coming from an animation background that’s a really nice way for me to come to things as well because in animation, and of course video games, by and large are animation as well, you have the potential to create the entire world. You get to design every prop and everything that is there and when you have that ability, you want to capitalize on it , you want to make like, the coolest storytelling experience you can, through all these means that are possible, so its great that we get to work with the art team and we get to work with the lighting folks and we get to work with audio. All of those things help me do my job better and hopefully also help make the game better.
