With every good game or show on television there are several bad ones which can be pleasurable in their own right. However, we must take the whole spectrum of content into account and decide what to watch or to play.
Yeah, most games are junk. Most things in the world are junk. You know, its just really, its hard to find, it hard to make good games that truly live up to their potential, but its hard to make good anything that lives up to it potential. And most bad games aren't that bad, just like most bad television, its okay, so you indulge yourself in a little bad television- is there anything better when you come home and you're just exhausted and you just, and the weight of the world is on you and you're so anxious and just flip on some junk TV, and just for a minute you let yourself go, and its so pleasurable. And its partly pleasurable because its bad. You know its bad for you and its not uplifting and that's a...that's just part of aesthetics, its just one of those things that we have to have in our lives, alongside the James Joyce and Civilization 4 and you know, competitive high-level Team Fortress 2, where you're...you're practicing all day, and you're struggling to develop and hone your skills, and you're working with your teammates to develop this intuitive sense of empathy and also ESP- I mean, that's amazing. There's nothing else in the world that's like the kind of experience you can have in a deep and compelling game. And that whole spectrum is out there and you, yeah, you just have to figure out for yourself how you want to fit that into your life.
